What is rex 84?

Rex 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984, was a classified scenario and drill created by the United States government in the 1980s. It was developed as a continuity of government and civil disturbance planning exercise by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with other federal agencies, military branches, and state and local governments.

The purpose of Rex 84 was to test the federal government's ability to respond to a national crisis or emergency, such as widespread civil unrest, natural disasters, or a nuclear war. The exercise included plans for the implementation of martial law, mass detention of dissidents and other potential threats to national security, and the coordination of military and civilian resources to maintain order and continuity of government.

Rex 84 was highly controversial and raised concerns about potential violations of civil liberties and the abuse of government power. Critics argued that the exercise could be used to suppress political dissent and target specific groups or individuals deemed to be threats to national security. However, the details and extent of Rex 84's implementation remain largely classified, and the actual scope and impact of the exercise are not fully known.
